HIT Leaders To Discuss Statewide Health Information Exchange

Dr. Rick Shoup, State HIT Coordinator, Dr. John Halamka, CIO of Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and Harvard Medical School, and Phil Poley, COO of MassHealth will present an update on the statewide Health Information Exchange (HIE) on Friday, July 30, 2010 at the Massachusetts Medical Society in Waltham. There will also be an opportunity for questions and answers.

Governor Deval Patrick's national HIT Conference brought together key federal and state leaders to discuss strategies to improve patient care, further healthcare innovation and strengthen the economy. Governor Patrick, Secretary of Health and Human Services JudyAnn Bigby, and Dr. David Blumenthal, National Coordinator for HIT addressed over 600 conference attendees at the Westin Waterfront Hotel in Boston on Thursday, April 29, 2010


HIT Strategic Plan Approved

After approval by the Health IT Council and MTC Executive Board, the Massachusetts eHealth Institute, a division of the Massachusetts Technology Collaborative, presents the final version of “The Commonwealth of Massachusetts 2010 Health Information Technology Strategic Plan.” The development of this plan would not have been possible without the committed involvement of so many individuals, from the wide variety of key healthcare stakeholders to the many staff members, who so generously offered their time and expertise to this plan.

Ad Hoc Workgroups

Given the breadth of expertise in the Health IT area possessed by residents of the Commonwealth and the importance of including substantial private sector input into the planning process for HIE development and maintenance, the Secretary of the Executive Office of Health and Human Services, as chair of the Health IT Council and using MeHI to coordinate, has established Ad Hoc Workgroups. Governor Patrick and Secretary Bigby held an event on November 19 to update health IT company representatives on the state’s work to bring federal funds to Massachusetts for the planning and development of health IT. Joined by MeHI and MTC representatives, they discussed how our state can be a model for other states as they move toward widespread HIT adoption and heard company perspectives on how Massachusetts is doing in preparing for widespread HIT adoption and ways to coordinate with the private sector to ensure HIT is successful in improving patient care and managing health care costs.
